Root canal treatment, also known as nerve treatment, is often performed in response to intense toothache. When the living part of the tooth, the “pulp,” becomes severely inflamed, it is necessary to remove the nerve to relieve the pain. In this way, further inflammation is prevented.<\/p>\n

How long does root canal treatment take?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The duration of a root canal treatment varies depending on the specific tooth. Treatment on a front tooth with only one canal takes less time than on a molar with four canals. In general, the average treatment time varies between half an hour and two hours. Your practitioner will inform you about this in advance. If necessary, treatment can be spread over two appointments.<\/p>\n

Is root canal treatment painful?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people experience fear of root canal treatment, possibly due to stories from others or negative past experiences. However, these concerns are unfounded. Today, you will be adequately sedated during this treatment. Your dentist always checks to see if you still feel pain. Additional anesthesia is administered if necessary. If the anesthesia is effective, the entire treatment will be painless.<\/p>\n

Afterpain<\/strong><\/p>\n

To control bacteria during root canal treatment, the canals are rinsed with a disinfectant and filled with rubbery filler material. These processes can cause irritation, leading to post-treatment pain. This pain can last up to five to seven days and can be suppressed with painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.<\/p>\n

Try to schedule a checkup appointment every six months. During these checkups, we can detect and treat cavities early, reducing the likelihood of root canal treatment.<\/p>\n
