Root canal treatment – What you need to know
Root canal treatment (or endodontic treatment) is an effective way to save a tooth whose nerve is inflamed or infected. Today, thanks to modern techniques and anesthesia, this treatment is virtually painless. At Mondzorg Amstelveen , we perform these treatments carefully and with an eye for comfort.

Why is root canal treatment necessary?
Inside each tooth is the dental nerve, surrounded by blood vessels. When bacteria enter the tooth through a cavity or fracture, this nerve can become inflamed. Without treatment, the infection can spread to the jawbone, causing pain and swelling.

How do you recognize an inflamed nerve?
- Severe, throbbing toothache
- Sensitivity to hot or cold food
- Pain when chewing
- Swelling or a foul taste in the mouth
The treatment step by step
Our dentists perform the treatment carefully and in several steps:

Steps of a root canal treatment in cross section
- Anesthesia: The tooth is completely numbed so that the treatment is painless.
- Opening the tooth: A small opening is made to gain access to the nerve.
- Channel cleaning: The inflamed nerve is removed and the channels are cleaned.
- Filling of the canals: The root canals are filled with a biocompatible filling material.
- Closure and restoration: The tooth is closed with a filling or crown to protect it.
Cost of root canal treatment
The cost of root canal treatment at Amstelveen Mondzorg varies depending on the complexity of the treatment and the number of root canals. On average, prices are between €350 and €650 per tooth.
